The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second time in two days, but this time at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh. Since it was the Penguins first preseason home opener, big names like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Marc Staal played. However, they were no match for the Wings lineup, which featured Nicklas Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg. Many of the Wings top players stayed home, but Penguins' fans did get to see Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Kris Draper, goaltender Dominik Hasek, and Mikael Samuelsson play. Zetterberg made the most of his appearance with two goals and two assists. Samuelsson scored once and added three assists. Even defenseman Niklas Kronwall got on the board with a power play goal (you definitely don't see that happen very often).
The Wings are now 3-1 in the preseason with their one loss coming against Minnesota on Thursday at home.
