Detroit increased their Western Conference lead to 13 points after convincingly defeating the No. 2 Dallas Stars, 4-1. It was the team's 30th win this season in just 41 games. Amazing and quite impressive.
Once again, Detroit's secondary scoring provided most of the offense with the first three goals of the game including a beauty but unlikely goal by Johan Franzen. Aaron Downey earned his first offensive point with Detroit on an assist on Franzen's goal. Dallas Drake scored his first goal of the season and fought Dallas' Otto after he hit team captain Nicklas Lidstrom.
Unfortunately, Chris Osgood could not keep his shutout as Dallas scored in the second half of the third period. He made 23 saves and was named first star of the game. With a minute remaining, the crowd at Joe Louis Arena started chanting "Ozzie, Ozzie" which was great to hear and it actually gave me goosebumps.
On the other side of the ice, Dallas goaltender Marty Turco (and UM alum) once again struggled at the Joe and the crowd even mockingly chanted "Turco, Turco" throughout the game. Turco has yet to beat the Red Wings at the Joe.
The Wings play their next game in Dallas on January 5th.
