[Game Thread] Wings vs. Caps

New, comments

The Detroit Red Wings (31-10-7) visit D.C. for the only time this regular season as they take on the hot Washington Capitals (30-15-4). This game is definitely one of the handful of games that I had marked at the beginning of the season that were must-see games (while I watch all the games, these are just the ones I had to make sure I could watch).

Former MSU star Justin Abdelkader has been called up from Grand Rapids for the game as fan favorite Aaron Downey returned to the Griffins after playing in the Wings' last game against the Stars. While I totally understand that he's not the type of player we typically need on the ice, he is a fan favorite and he's such a great guy that it's sad to see him go back already.

Both Abdelkader and Leino are expected to play due to the Wings injury situation. Tomas Holmstrom is out with a groin injury and Henrik Zetterberg's back is still bugging him. Jiri Hudler's foot is still sore from when a shot hut him in the foot in Thursday's game. He may or may not play in the game. Ty Conklin will get the start in goal this afternoon.

For all things Caps, be sure to check out our SBN counterpart, Japer's Rink.

The game starts at 12:30 p.m. and will be shown on FSDetroit. Go Wings!
