Osgood tabs win No. 300 in Wings' 5-2 victory over the Blues

The Detroit Red Wings (45-15-9) snagged their first regulation win since March 4th in a 5-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues (31-29-8). The Wings registered three goals in a span of 46 seconds during the second period on three consecutive shots. It was the fastest three goals by the Wings since a 44-second span on December 4, 1987. Goaltender Chris Osgood earned his 300th victory in the Winged Wheel and protected Detroit's lead despite the Wings getting outshot 16-4 in the third period.

T.J. Oshie posted the only goal of the first period at 14:44. Detroit would kick off its offensive surge in the second period 4:40 into the middle frame. Forward Pavel Datsyuk scored his first goal of the day as Tomas Holmstrom screened Blues' goaltender Chris Mason down front. Defenseman Brad Stuart fed a pass to Datsyuk from one blue line to the next as he entered the St. Louis zone.

Tomas Kopecky gave the Wings its first lead of the game a mere ten seconds after Datsyuk's goal. A turnover by the Blues in their own zone and teamwork from Jiri Hudler and Valtteri Filppula resulted in the goal.

36 seconds later, defenseman Brett Lebda intercepted a failed clearing attempt by St. Louis, beating Mason on his glove side, in an unassisted effort to extend Detroit's lead to two goals.

St. Louis responded with a marker of its own 9:08 into the middle frame. But Datsyuk would score again, this time with just 35 seconds remaining in the period on a nice wrister. His shot came from just along the half boards on the right side of the ice. Johan Franzen was credited with the assist on the play.

Henrik Zetterberg scored an empty-netter at 18:03 in the closing period as he fired in a shot from along the left half boards to ensure the Detroit victory.
