The busy month of January (15 games in 31 days) starts with the Red Wings beginning another five-game road trip. They begin in Glendale to take on the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Coyotes come in having lost to the San Jose Sharks in a six-round shootout 3-2 on Wednesday night. They went 0-6 on the power play that night, with goals from Scottie Upshall and Taylor Pratt.
The Red Wings won on New Years Eve 4-2 over Colorado as a pair of short-handed goals from Darren Helm plus the game winner from Ville Leino (breaking a 20-game scoreless streak) helped back up a solid showing from Jimmy Howard.
The two teams have split the season series, each winning a game at home.
