Sunday Links: Because There's More News

New, comments

The Red Wings will finish up their preseason schedule this evening when they welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins into town for a rematch of Detroit's first preseason game.  That game will be on FS-D for you locals or on PCNC for anybody living in Pittsburgh. Hopefully there will be options for us out-of-towners. [Edit: as brought up by commenter RedPandaAlex in the comments, NHL Network will be showing a national replay at 9 tonight]

Red Wings News

Penguins vs. Red Wings - 10/02/2011 - Detroit Red Wings - Preview
Redwings.com's preview of tonight's action. Looks like Malkin won't be playing. Franzen and Zetterberg are in, but Filppula is not. I'm wondering if Babcock is going to try Brunnstrom out as the other winger on that line to give him a chance to really earn the contract we all think is coming.

NHL.com Recap: Red Wings 4 - Maple Leafs 2
Darren Helm's name is all over this recap just like Darren Helm's ass was all over the ice last night. I'm contractually obligated to say something about how "it's just preseason", but the Leafs put out a lot of their regulars and Helm ran all over them like Helmermania.

Red Wings' Jimmy Howard not happy with preseason, strives for more consistency | MLive.com
Howard has one final exhibition tune up prior to the regular season, starting Sunday against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Joe Louis Arena. I hadn't even noticed the problem of lining up with the shooter instead of the puck, but it would explain why his short side is getting abused this preseason.

Tomas Holmstrom back where he started -- Red Wings' fourth line | Detroit Free Press | freep.com
Homer isn't quite happy with the demotion, but we kind of like it when Homer isn't quite happy with things. He plays his best hockey when he's mad.

Souvenir of the week | Detroit Free Press | freep.com
For all of you Henrik Zetterberg plush enthusiasts out there. This thing is cute. I'm a bit surprised they didn't go with Ericsson though; he's much softer.

Elsewhere Around the League

Video: Ryan Malone anticipates Shanahan call after head shot - Puck Daddy - NHL Blog - Yahoo! Sports
Every one of these is just a little different and is a good learning experience for the players... except Shanahan keeps talking about the video all players were required to watch. Hopefully that would have been enough of a teaching tool.

The Hockey News: Maple Leafs forward MacArthur thinks NHL turning into a no-hitting league
Here's Clarke MacArthur whining about the slippery slope they're on where the league is trying to prevent players from scrambling each others brains. WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE RECKLESS HEAD-HITTERS?

Tigers drop ALDS opener to Yankees 9-3 after suspended game - Bless You Boys
Doug Fister gave up six runs, Al Alburquerque a grand slam, and the Tigers batters failed to get much going as they dropped the ALDS opener 9-3 to New York. The Tigers will get a chance to even the 5-game series this afternoon.

I forgot to post this yesterday, but Heh...heh...ha...ha.HAAAAAAAhAhahahahha!

The Shanabans!
Somebody set up a website that tracks all the particulars into every one of Shanahan's suspensions. Each one is broken down by the offender and the defender, whether there was an injury, whether it's a repeat offender, which rule was broken, how many games and how much salary will be lost, and even included a link to the ruling.
