The irony of this game thread is that as I type this, I am listening to the radio and the song "Panic in Detroit" by David Bowie is playing. There is anything but panic in Hockeytown as the Wings are currently riding a 5-game winning streak, having just come off a mini road-trip where they swept Florida and took care of business in Minnesota against a surging Wild team.
Tonight, the Wings are back at the Joe and welcome another hot team as the Sharks come to town. The Sharks are beginning a little road-trip of their own as this is the first of 3 games away from the Bay for them. The NHL's number 1 star Antti Niemi is manning the nets for the Sharks now that Nittymaki is injured, and he's been stellar.
There was some talk in the pre-game of how Wing fans don't view this game as anything but just another regular season contest, but whenever you get the chance to prove to another team in your conference that they are still inferior, you take that opportunity and run with it. The Wings have been firing on all cylinders the past few games and look to continue that trend against a Sharks team that is playing very well. Here's hoping that Babcock subtly reminds the boys that this is the team that ended their season last year, and while beating them tonight won't avenge that loss, it will make them feel good.
