Tonight we say goodbye to Round 1 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and we're sending it off with a pair of Game 7s in series that did not look like they would end up in these situations. It's been a wild first round, with improbable comebacks (both in games and series), unlikely teams struggling, and a ton of overtime.
From a Red Wings perspective, it's nice to finally have an opponent. The Wings will kick off Round 2 with a trip out to NorCal and a rematch with the San Jose Sharks. J.J. had a nice preview up and we'll have a few more things for your reading pleasure to get ready for this series. However, before we begin, let's look at the 2 games tonight.
The Boston Bruins are playing a Game 7 for the second straight series (dating back to last year), and like in their previous series, they had a chance to avoid this by winning a game on the road, but failed to do so. The Canadiens travel to Beantown to try and recreate the magic that saw them take the first 2 games of this series on enemy ice. Out in Pittsburgh, the Penguins are trying to prevent the Lightning from completing the series comeback. The Pens led this series 3-1 and had a game at home to wrap this series up, but decided to get some extra practice in for Round 2.
