Detroit's Game 1 Lineup Announced

New, comments

Per Ansar Khan:

Veterans Kris Draper and Mike Modano are the healthy forward scratches for the Detroit Red Wings tonight in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the San Jose Sharks (10 p.m., FSD), coach Mike Babcock said after the morning skate at HP Pavilion

With those scratches, the lines will look like this tonight:

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Hudler-Filppula-Franzen
Cleary-Abdelkader-Bertuzzi
Miller-Helm-Eaves

Lidstrom-Stuart
Ericsson-Rafalski
Kronwall-Salei

Interesting to see Datsyuk and Zetterberg on a line together.  Naturally, as always, that doesn't mean to expect anything other than that they'll start the game on a line with one another.  Lots of people give Babcock crap about how easily he shuffles his lines, but it does make things a lot smoother when you have to start juggling people around.  As Babcock himself put it: "We start with a plan and that plan's usually good until the first or second shift and then you're ready to adjust. Whoever's playing the best gets on the ice. If it's working good you keep them together, if it's not working good, keep them apart."

To be honest, I was a little surprised to see Babcock sit Draper in favor of Miller, but the way that Miller played in the first round was undeniably good for the fourth-liner who put up ten goals this season and one in the first round.
