Philadelphia Flyers ship out captain Mike Richards, and Jeff Carter, sign Bryzgalov

TSN.ca:

"Carter was dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Jakub Voracek and a first (8th overall) and third round draft pick.

Richards was shipped to the Los Angeles Kings for forwards Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds and a second-round draft pick.

By dealing Carter and Richards, the Flyers opened up enough cap space to then sign recently-acquired goaltender Ilya Brygalov to a nine-year, $51 million contract."

Bryz is a hit of approximately $5.67mil per season. Reports are that Phily is over the 50 contract limit, therefore we can safely assume that Philly is not done yet.

From a neutral perspective I think Holmgren did well to get good returns for both assets. However, they've now lost their top two centers. Maybe now the rumors about issues in the dressing room as well as outside of the rink, could have been a factor but that's just my thinking. This may set them back slightly as legitimate contenders from the East, but very good move for the future, given they sign RFA simmonds and Voracek. Very good core of offense. But I've always thought it was their defense that let them down in the playoffs. Bryz slightly overpaid? Giroux for Hudler anyone?
