Quick Hits: Abs, Walleye, Cheats, and Lebdas

  • Helene St. James has her next player preview up, this time for Justin Abdelkader.  She believes that Abs must use his body and newfound toughness to wear down opposing defenders and that he has the potential to jump up in the lineup. [Detroit Free Press]
  • The Red Wings renewed their affiliation with the Toledo Walleye yesterday for the 2011-2012 season.  They are our AA affiliate, one that we do not use or hear about too often.  It is possible Jordan Pearce will play with them again this season. [MLive]
  • Todd Bertuzzi believes Danny Cleary cheated in his bobblehead campaign by promising to sign each and every one of the bobbleheads, something Bertuzzi does not believe Cleary will be able to do. [Detroit Free Press]
  • Apparently Brunnstrom is ecstatic to be playing with the Red Wings whom he calls the "world's best hockey team" and the team he "most hoped to go to." [The Malik Report]
  • Petrella has an interesting writeup of the Brett Lebda saga. It's much more entertaining than I originally thought. [The Production Line]
  • Habs Eyes on the Prize openly wonders if the Canadiens need an enforcer.  Most of the readers seem to think not, but Andrei Markov's glass knee seems to disagree. [Habs Eyes on the Prize]
  • The mask that Ilya Bryzgalov will wear for the Flyers has been revealed and... yeah.  It's bad. [In Goal Magazine]
  • With Jamie Langenbrunner gone to first Dallas and now St. Louis, the Devils are in need of a new captain.  Wysh worries that it could be Ilya Kovalchuck instead of Zach Parise.  I reject both of those players and suggest that Patrick Elias is the rightful captain of that team, even if he does not want it. [Puck Daddy]
  • The NHL Research and Development Camp gets underway today, led by Brendan Shanahan.  Among many things, the camp will examine adding a goal indicator line inside the net and shortening the depth of the net (allowing more open play behind the goal). [TSN]

Discussion of the Day: What rules would you like to see changed/added for the NHL?
