Morning Skate: Only In Nashville...

New, comments

(Must be the Shea Weber family section)

I really do wish someone on the Red Wings would punch Shea Weber in the face tonight. Not some dumb, dirty cheap shot, but a man-to-man, drop the gloves type of fight (And yes, I know what every Preds fan is thinking right now "OMG y'all this guy is dumb as a post! His team has Todd Bertuzzi! Shoot, I reckon the Red Wings are the dirty team.") It's not going to happen though for a few reasons. That's not how the Red Wings operate. They don't have a true enforcer to do that even if they wanted to. The Wings are going to get their revenge like they always do and that's on the scoreboard.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous heading into this series. I wasn't sure just which Red Wings team was going to show up. After game one though, I can tell you that this series is not going seven games. Detroit is winning this in six. I was encouraged with what I saw. Pekka Rinne was great, but the Predators won thanks to a few lucky bounces. Those bounces tend to even out as a series goes on. And after tonight, it won't just be the bounces that are even, but the series too.

Just bring it, Nashville.

[J.J. edit] your SBNation Predators a whiny insular cesspool.

  • The Red Wings are 8-5 all-time against the Nashville Predators in the playoffs.
  • Courtesy of Brian Hedger, "Detroit's Nicklas Lidstrom is two points away from tying Steve Yzerman for the most in Wings' playoff history (185) and is two goals from tying Denis Potvin for most playoff goals in NHL history by a defenseman (56). "
  • The Wings are 8-3 in game 2 of round 1 in the playoffs since 2000. They've outscored opponents 42-28. However, they're only 3-2 in game 2 after losing in game 1. (All stats via the Red Wings game notes, found here thanks to Bill Roose)
