Red Wings Select Michael McKee 140th Overall

Michael McKee
Born: August 17, 1993 (Age 18)
From: Newmarket, ON
232 lbs
Position: D
Shoots: Left
Team: Lincoln, USHL

The Red Wings get a big corn-fed boy out the USHL. Already committed to Western Michigan, Michael McKee is a big D-man. The kid put up 2 goals, 17 assists, and 237 penalty minutes in 59 games last season. McKee is as raw as a 5th rounder is expected to be, but like they say, you can't teach size.

Here's what RedWingsCentral had to say

Numbers you need to know that you don’t often see from a Red Wings’ draftee — 6-foot-4, 232 pounds and 237 penalty minutes. Not ranked by Central Scouting, the rugged defenseman plays with a mean streak and is headed to Western Michigan next season in the Red Wings’ back yard.

Bruins2011Draftwatch had a writeup about McKee from last year.

At 6-5, 230, tremendous size and physical maturity for a kid who won't turn 18 until August. Newmarket, Ontario native is an excellent skater for his size, with good first step and a powerful stride. Very good balance and lateral agility/edgework as well.
Has a big shot, but doesn't use it all that much, preferring to distribute the puck.
