The NHL has announced that they are cancelling all preseason games and events up until September 30th due to the current NHL lockout.
This means that the Wings will lose 4 of their 8 preseason games, of which 2 were at home. The games lost are at Pittsburgh on the 26th, at home against the Blackhawks on the 27th, at Chicago on the 28th and at home against the Capitals on the 30th.
The Wings have an additional 4 games after October 1st. They play at home versus Pittsburgh and Toronto before finishing off their preseason with two more away games, one against the Leafs and another against the Capitals.
According to James Mirtle, a total of 61 NHL preseason games were cancelled today and most likely many more will follow.
The NHL also announced that the 2012 Kraft Hockeyville preseason game has been postponed until 2013.
While this shouldn't come as a shock to anyone I think that we all are starting to realize how real this lockout truly is. With players signing overseas and staff from multiple teams getting laid off, a hockey season seems to keep floating further and further away.
