Game Day Updates: Detroit Red Wings at Carolina Hurricanes

New, comments
Bruce Bennett

Daniel Alfredsson practiced this morning and all indications are that he will play tonight.

The Wings lines laid out in the morning skate still stand; though there's no update on whether or not Kyle Quincey plans continue his Twerkfense strategy.

All indications are that the Power Play units will remain the same as well (here's a reminder in case you forgot/blocked the second one out).

Power Play #1
Henrik Zetterberg Pavel Datsyuk Johan Franzen
Niklas Kronwall Daniel Alfredsson

Power Play #2
Daniel Cleary Stephen Weiss Todd Bertuzzi
Jakub Kindl Mikael Samuelsson

Darren Helm skated again today (Hooray!)

Just the facts please.

  • Henrik Zettererg has 10 points in 9 games against the Canes.
  • Pavel Datsyuk is the only remaining player on either team who also played in the 2002 Stanley Cup Finals.
  • Pavel Datsyuk and Patrick Eaves both scored their first NHL goals against the Hurricanes.
  • Daniel Alfredsson (56), Stephen Weiss (52), Todd Bertuzzi (23), and Mikael Samuelsson (22) are the only Wings players who have played more than 15 career games against the Canes.
  • Justin Abdelkader is 6 PIM shy of 200
  • 22 years ago yesterday, Vladamir Knostantinov made his NHL debut with the Red Wings.

This is Carolina's season debut and we'll have at least 2 WiiMers in attendance, so I expect a big things.
