Flyers Blog: Broad Street Hockey

In case you've been in a glass case of emotion and missed the awful news yesterday, Captain Henrik Zetterberg will miss *at least* 2 weeks with a herniated disc in his back. Pavel Datsyuk still isn't practicing with the team, and Todd Bertuzzi practiced yesterday but isn't ready to play yet. We needed another forward, and becaue of cap restrictions, we got Cory Emmerton.

The Wings have won their last 4 games even with Datsyuk and Bertuzzi on the sidelines. Tonight will be the first time since April 18, 2006 that the Wings have been without both Datsyuk and Zetterberg, and it both terrifies and (slightly) excites me. Who will be the next player to prove they can do more? Hold on to your butt, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

The Flyers aren't quite the dumpster fire they were at the beginning of the season, but they're still bad. They lost their last game on Monday night when the Minnesota Wild shut them out 2-0. The Wings will play Philly three times this season, and took the win in the first meeting 5-2 when Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Alfredsson all had 3 point nights. Well, multiple someones are going to have to take over for a while now and show that killer instinct Alfredsson said we need. Even with our entire first line on IR, I have faith that boys will step up and get the job done. Everyone needs to be better, no exceptions. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Kick the tires and light the fires boys, it's time to fly!

Opponent Outlook

Player to Fear: Michael Raffl, because he's never scored an NHL goal.

X-Factor: Vinny Lecavalier is pretty good at hockey, and leads the team in goals.

Familiar Faces: Danny Cleary

Thumbs up (One Thing to Like About Philadelphia): The Liberty Bell

Thumbs down (One Thing to Dislike About Philadelphia): Hall Gill. He's a pylon (2nd cousin of a cylon) and I think he's a stupid head (technical term), yet when he tweeted this out, I laughed in spite of myself. I'm mad at him for making me laugh when I don't want to laugh because of him. Hall Gill, I hope you know I was laughing AT you and not WITH you.

Bullets of Knowledge

  • The Red Wings are 48-56-21-0 (W-L-T-OTL) all-time against the Flyers.

  • Last 10 games: Flyers 6-3-1. Detroit 5-2-3.

  • The Wings are currently 3-1-0 on Wednesdays.

  • Howard is 1-1-0 with a 3.00 GAA and .918 SV% in 2 career games against the Flyer.

Prediction: Lyrical Inspiration:

You cannot stop us
You cannot bring us down
Never give up
We go on and on
You'll never break us
Never bring us down
We are alive!

The wind blows
I'll lean into the wind
My anger grows
I'll use it to win
The more you say
The more I defy you

Let's Go Red Wings!!!
