Flashback Friday: Nicklas Lidstrom's Hat Trick

This is a new segment on WIIM where we look back at some of the Red Wings franchise's greatest moments.

Dilip Vishwanat

WHEN: December 15, 2010

WHERE: Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, MI

WHAT: The greatest defenseman of all-time registered his first career hat trick. At the young age of 40, Nicklas Lidstrom was finally able to cross "Three goals in a single game" off his bucket list. At this point in his career the list of things The Perfect Human hadn't done was way shorter than the list of accomplishments. You probably wouldn't have guessed that it would have taken someone of his stature so long to do this. To be exact, it took Lidstrom 19 years and 1,442 games to score his first hat trick. He was clearly just waiting until the curly fries promotion came to life and was a big fan favorite. Free curly fries was unheard of back in the early 90s.

The Red Wings defeated the Blues 5-2. Lidstrom's goals came at even strength, on the power play and he finished off the hat trick with an empty netter with 30 seconds left. He also registered an assist to give him a four point night.
