Abby Time!: Red Wings 5 - Ducks 1

The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Anaheim Ducks 5-1.

USA TODAY Sports

I'm tired, you're tired, and the Wings are probably tired so let's get to this.

The Wings started off the first period looking slow and sluggish. The Ducks on the other hand looked energized and nearly took an early lead after an Emerson Etem no-goal. The Ducks continued their forward march as Teemu Selanne would score to make it 1-0 Ducks. Two minutes later, Justin Abdelkader (you read that right) scored a beauty to tie the game up. The Wings seemed to balance the game out and after a penalty to Ryan Getzlaf, Pavel Datsyuk would score to give the Wings the 2-1 lead heading into the intermission.

3 minutes into the 2nd period the unthinkable occurred. Justin Abdelkader scored his second of the night to extend the Wings lead. But gator wasn't done there. 10 minutes later, Abby scored again to not only give the Wings a 4-1 lead, but to also notch his first career hat-trick. What a night by this guy!

The third period was fairly event-less until Johan Franzen scored to make it 5-1. It seemed that the goal was Abby's, but the replays indicated that it was the Mules goal. By the way, Johan Franzen and Justin Abdelkader both currently have 6 goals on the season. During the dying moments of the game, Bobby Ryan challenged Brendan Smith to a fight. Not only does Ryan knock himself down as he goes after Smith, but he also ends up losing the fight. Good job Smithy!

The Wings played a good game tonight and earned their two points. It was also nice to see Abdelkader score a hat-trick after all the hate he has been receiving as of late. I think we can all agree that sometimes there are things that Babcock understands that we don't.

The Wings play the Ducks again on Sunday and you have to expect Anaheim to be furious after today. I think we will see some more fights and I won't be shocked if Babs dresses Tootoo for that game.

Lets Go Wings!
