Pathetic: Red Wings 1 - Blackhawks 7

The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Chicago Blackhawks with a score of 7-1.

Tom Szczerbowski

Terrible. Atrocious. Embarrassing. Disappointing. Pathetic.

The adjectives that describe this performance by the Wings go on and on.

What makes it worse is that today was Gordie "Mr. Hockey" Howe's 85th birthday, a good reason to play your heart out right? It seems that the Wings didn't get the memo.

Anyways, here is your recap:

The Chicago Blackhawks would take the lead less then 3 minutes into the game as Jeremy Morin would score after the puck took a weird bounce. Moments later, Brendon Saad scored to make it 2-0 in favor of Chicago. Just as it looked as if the Wings could not play any worse, Jakub Kindl would score an own goal. All of this took place during the first 4 minutes of gameplay. The Wings improved throughout the rest of the period and would nearly score as a Brian Lashoff shot hit the post.

During the 2nd period, the Wings looked as if they were improving, however, Jonathan Toews put a stop to that as he scored to make it 4-0 to Chicago. After this goal Babcock would take out Howard and put Jonas Gustafsson in the net. However, the change didn't help as just 8 seconds later Brendon Saad would score his second goal of the day to extend Chicago's lead to 5-0.

Half-way through the third period Dave Bolland scored to further Chicago's lead. With about 3 minutes left in the game, Nick Leddy scored to make it 7-0 to Chicago. Cory Emmerton would later score a garbage goal with a minute left in the game to end it 7-1 to Chicago.

The Wings played terrible. Plain terrible. Despite the terrible start by the Wings, they had a chance to come back into the game. The fact that they didn't and the fact that they let in two more goals in the 2nd period just summarizes this game for me.

Hopefully the Wings just move on from this game and focus on tomorrows game versus the Av's. Everyone has bad games and today was one of those games. Maybe it has something to do with Samuelsson returning to the lineup?

Also, in case you missed it, here is Jakub Kindl's backhand own goal.

Next up for the Wings are the Colorado Avalanche tomorrow at the Joe.

Lets Go Wings and LETS GO BLUE!!!
