The Dirt
As expected, there will be no lineup changes for Detroit tonight. Don't tinker with it if it ain't broken.
Jimmy Howard was named the NHL's 1st star of the week after going 4-0-0 with a 0.75 GAA, .969 SV% and 2 shutouts in the last 4 games of the season. Jimmy played his best when the team needed it the most. Keep on rollin' Jimmah.
Henrik Zetterberg was named the NHL's 2nd star of the week. Zetterberg had 2 goals and 8 assists in the last 4 games and led the NHL in power-play points (5) and finished 2nd in the NHL with a +6. The Zetterbeast cometh.
There's seems to still be no progress with Darren Helm, but he is with the team in Anaheim, which is maybe a small sign of progress since he wasn't able to handle the flight before. He recently took 10 days off from skating (which he's done frequently during his injury) but skated a little this past weekend at the Joe. He said it was lonely, dark and "I don't even think they turned on the lights for me."... Ok, what kind of heartless monster wouldn't turn the lights on for Helmer? (I kid, I kid... mostly)
It was an optional skate this morning, and Babcock, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall, and Filppula took the option.
Jimmy Howard was so excited for the playoffs to start, that he was on the ice before the Zamboni was even finished.
Drew Miller skated with the team in practice this morning for the first time since breaking his hand in Vancouver on April 20th. Miller's recovery time of 4-8 weeks would put him back in the late second round.
Bertuzzi and Samuelsson both skated with the team, but Samuelsson will never play (thank jeebus) and Bertuzzi won't take anyone's spot in the lineup unless things start to go badly. I do find it reassuring that Bertuzzi is ready when/if we need him.
Jonas Hiller will start in net tonight for the Ducks. Hiller has a 3-4 postseason record against the Wings, with a 2.72 GAA and .932 SV%
Brad Watson is ref'ing the game... You've been warned.
