2013 NHL Draft: With Selection #48 Detroit Selects Zach Nastasiuk

USA TODAY Sports

The Red Wings have chosen their first companion to their first-round pick Anthony Mantha with Owen Sound's Zach Nastasiuk, A 6'1" RW who put up 20 goals and 20 assists in 62 games last season. Nastasiuk was #51 on the overall rankings.

Hockey's Future has this to say about the right-shooting kid.

Like Nurse, Nastasiuk comes from an athletic family background and knows what it takes to play professional sports. His work ethic (as evidenced by his return from an injurty this season) has been lauded league-wide and the 6’1 right winger brings a lot of mental fortitude to this game.

Nastasiuk is a solid winger but needs to improve his overall skating ability. He has a nose for the net (finishing the campaign with 20 goals), and could project to being a solid third-line player that brings an offensive touch to his game.

The Cannon wrote a draft profile on Nastasiuk as well.

Nastasiuk creeps into the first round in a handful of mock drafts, be he is more than likely ticketed for the second round. He isn't a high-end offensive player, rather he is a solid two-way player who in the professional ranks will play a checking role. His scouting reports read a lot like Boone Jenner's did in his draft year.

He's got enough size and abilities without the puck that if he were to develop his offensive game more, he could turn in to a second-line winger for the NHL team that drafts him.
