Three big news story's yesterday surrounding the Wings. First, Vincent Lecavalier will be heading to the Philadelphia Flyers, not Dallas, Detroit or Montreal. The contract is 5 years, $22.5 million, with a full no movement clause.
2nd, the Wings have decided that they will most likely buy out Carlo Colaiacovo. It wasn't because of the contract (one year remaining), and it wasn't about the player. Instead, the Wings simply had one defenseman too many and something had to give. That something turned out to be Mr. Colaiacovo. Good luck elsewhere!
For those of you wondering why Sammy isn't being bought out, our very own Graham has the answer:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>The only reason Samuelsson hasn't been bought out is because of his agent's threat to fight it due to injury</p>— Graham Hathway (@GrahamWIIM) <a href="https://twitter.com/GrahamWIIM/statuses/352211932348030977">July 2, 2013</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Finally, the Wings have also decided to not retain goaltender prospect Thomas McCollum. McCollum, who was drafted 30th overall by the Wings in 2008, has struggled to hold down a spot in the AHL and his only game in the NHL was the 10-3 loss to St. Louis a few years ago when he let in 3 goals. The RFA wasn't extended a qualifying offer.
On to the Quick Hits:
Red Wings News
Report: Red Wings likely to buy out Colaiacovo | ProHockeyTalk
So he hasn't been bought out yet but most likely will.
Red Wings overnight report: Fil gone, Colaiacovo bought out, DET unlikely to pursue big-ticket UFA’s | The Malik Report
So Bert stays. That's good. But regarding the Samuelsson "injury". I understand that his agent can dispute whether he is injured or not but why would Sammy want to play for a team that wants to buy his out? He will get him money either way.
Adios Filppula. Had a blast. Good luck elsewhere.
My preferred centers: #1 Weiss, #2 Ribeiro, #3 Roy, #4 If we get to this point, either just pay Filppula or fold the team.
He was good in the playoffs but too little too late I guess.
Horton wants 6X6 (most likely). I don't want him. At all.
I like the move too. It will make the 5th much more interesting to say the least.
They gave the Wings an A-. I can agree with that. The Mantha pick (and trade) was an A+. My grade is A.
The only player in the draft to score 50 goals. And we got him. :)
Flyers sign Vinny Lecavalier to 5-year deal; let the cap space clearing begin! | Puck Daddy - Yahoo! Sports
With Pronger on LTIR, the Flyers still have around $4.5 million in cap space. But, with big needs on defense and the obvious lack of goaltending, that money may not be enough. Chances are that the Flyers move either Braydon Coburn or Andrej Mezaros.

And now the intrigue begins.
Phoenix Coyotes avoid relocation, stay in Glendale as city council passes arena lease | Puck Daddy - Yahoo! Sports
As pointed out by someone on Twitter, this makes no sense for the NHL financially but it does protect their "pride". The NHL doesn't want another one of their experiment teams to fail and relocate (i.e. Atlanta).

Move on from one French-Canadian to the next.
Oilers make qualifying offers to Gagner, Paajarvi, four others | TSN
Make an offer sheet to Gagner?
Penguins come to terms with Kris Letang; also sign him for eight years, $58 million | Puck Daddy - Yahoo! Sports
My problem with this deal is the money, not the term. If you have an AAV of $7.25 million you have to, in my mind, be a top-3 defenseman in this league. Is he a top-3 defenseman? I guess that's up to your judgement. But here are some people that probably don't think he is: Drew Doughty, Ryan Suter, Zdeno Chara, Niklas Kronwall, Dion Phaneuf, Erik Karlsson, Duncan Keith, P.K. Subban etc. You get the point, Letang is not worth the money he is getting paid.
Jets sign Clitsome to three-year, $6.2 million deal | ProHockeyTalk
The funny thing is, towards the bottom of this article, the top-5 UFA defenseman are listed. Colaiacovo is among them.
Is Vinny Lecavalier A Good Or Bad Signing for Philadelphia? | The Hockey Writers
As a player, he will help them. As a salary, I don't know what the Flyers were/are thinking.
Bozak's camp puts eight-year proposal on table for Leafs | TSN
Pascal Dupuis foregoes free agency, re-signs with Penguins for four years, $15 million | Puck Daddy - Yahoo! Sports
Good term and money for a guy of Dupuis' caliber.
My system that I would like the NHL to implement: 3 point for REG win. 2 points for OT win (none for loser). 2 points for SO win. 1 point for SO loss.
Let's Go Red Wings!
