Daniel Alfredsson has setback, may go to Detroit Red Wings camp without contract | Detroit Free Press
Yeah, I do not know about this guys. A setback is the last thing Alfie needed right now. He should be able to assess his physical ability better at camp, since there will be a bit more of a fast-paced, competitive edge there, although nothing like what it will be like in the NHL.
Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson (broken finger) still not fully healed but will be ready for season opener | MLive.com
Ericsson's broken finger has to be one of the most debilitating finger injuries in the history of finger injuries. In all fairness, his finger was apparently crushed, which sounds less than pleasant.
Griffins Release 2014-15 Promotional Schedule | Grand Rapids Griffins
The Griffins have a bunch of promotions going on this season. $2 Hot Dogs? Danke.
Detroit Red Wings, Danny DeKeyser remain at odds as training camp nears | Detroit Free Press
Let's make one thing clear. DeKeyser will eventually re-sign. There is no doubt about that. But, the longer this lingers, one cannot help but feel a bit antsy about the whole situation.
Red Wings prospects: Final amateur season has goaltender Jake Paterson ready for pro hockey | MLive.com
Hopefully Paterson's transition to the pro game is smoother than Coreau's.
Red Wings outlook: Tomas Jurco has tremendous upside, but no assurance of a roster spot at the start | MLive.com
I have a feeling that Jurco will be this year's Nyquist in the sense that he will most likely start the season in Grand Rapids, and as injuries inevitably occur, he will receive playing time with the Wings.
Amanda Kessel out for NCAA season due to concussion | Puck Daddy
Kessel will miss the University of Minnesota's entire season due to a concussion that was suffered while training with the U.S. Women's National Team. As the article points out, this is terrible news for women's ice hockey. She is the face of women's ice hockey in the U.S. at the moment, and, losing that face will slow down some of the momentum that the sport has gained since the 2014 Olympics.

Koivu is the longest-serving captain in Montreal Canadiens history, tied with Jean Béliveau. He won one Olympic Silver medal, and three Olympic Bronze medal's with Team Finland.

The Coyotes' arena finally has a new name. Jobing.com Arena never really had a ring to it.

NHL faces possibly 10,000 litigants in concussions lawsuits | TSN
I doubt that 10,000 former players/former players' families will sue the NHL, but, that number is staggering. Such a lawsuit, if won by the litigants, could have a major impact on the NHL. The NFL faced a similar lawsuit, against 20,000 of its former players, and initially settled for a payout of about $700 million. This could also pressure the NHL to take increased action against fighting.
Boudreau gets contract extension; now it’s time to deliver | ProHockeyTalk
Overall, the Ducks have a good hockey team. With a good head coach, as Boudreau is viewed, the Ducks should be able to compete for a Stanley Cup. Anything less should be viewed as a failure on Anaheim's part.
Does Jarome Iginla have another 30-goal season in him? - SBNation.com
While Iginla is 37-years-old, he proved last season that he is still one of the premier goal scorers in the NHL. Outside of the 2012-13 season, Iginla has scored at least 30 goals per season since the 1999-2000 season. That season he scored 29 goals, and the season before that he scored 28 goals. Point being, outside of what appears to be an anomaly season, Iginla is still an elite goal scorer. He may begin to slow-down a bit as he continues to age, but, I would be surprised if a healthy Iginla does not score at least 25 goals this season.
Ex-Isles ‘owner’ Spano indicted for theft, forgery | ProHockeyTalk
Back in 1996, John Spano lied to obtain a loan that he needed in order to buy the Islanders. He has been indicted on one count of theft, and 44 counts of forgery.
THN’s 2014-15 NHL season preview: New York Islanders | The Hockey News
I know that people have been saying this for the past couple of seasons, but, I have a feeling that the Islanders really could make a deep run into the playoffs this season. Any team with a player like John Tavares will be competitive. Their defense is shaky, but, a good and deep offense should be able to compensate for that.
The 12 greatest things in hockey video game history | Puck Daddy
There are few things better than making Darren Helm into a "99 overall" superstar who has great hands and can actually score goals.
