Red Wings 3, Blackhawks 2: Young forwards Tomas Nosek, Andrej Nestrasil spark preseason victory | MLive.com
We won! I know it is just the preseason, but, let's start the season off with some momentum!
Wings break ground on future home - Detroit Red Wings
The work on the new arena officially began yesterday. As a native-Detroiter, I am really pleased with the ultimate goals of this project, and how those goals will be achieved. I also liked the fact that Chris Ilitch made a little Eminem reference towards the end of his speech.
He may not be at the level of prospects like Sproul, Ouellet, Marchenko, and Bäckman yet, but, he is not too far behind.
This is really good news. Once Datsyuk's shoulder is fully healed, his transition back into NHL form should go much smoother than had he not been able to skate.
Nathan Horton has a degenerative back condition | Puck Daddy
"Degenerative" is never a word that you want to see attached to an injury. The bad news for the Blue Jackets is that they have Horton signed through the 2019-2020 season.
Predators sign Ryan Ellis to five-year, $12.5M deal | ProHockeyTalk
The Predators have re-signed their RFA defenseman. The deal gives Ellis a cap hit of $2.5 million per season.
What if Zach Parise and Ryan Suter chose the Pens? - PensBurgh
The problem with signing both Suter and Parise would have been the amount of cap space that the Penguins would have tied up in its best players. The team would lack depth, which is something that is necessary to have in order to win a Cup.
NHLers with one more chance to prove themselves - Sportsnet.ca
No surprise that Stephen Weiss is on this list. I was a little more surprised that Jimmy Howard was also included.
Jordan Staal needs surgery, will miss 3-4 months | ProHockeyTalk
This is terrible news for the Hurricanes. At least the Wings can consider themselves fortunate that Datsyuk will only miss a month of hockey.
Bertuzzi Blackballed While Thornton Makes Millions | The Hockey Writers
I hope that Bertuzzi does receive an offer of some sort from a team eventually, because it is evident that he still wants to play. As this article points out, he is a far better option than most players available, and he is an upgrade over many veterans who are already employed by NHL teams.
NHL Fantasy Hockey: 15 hunches heading into the 2014-15 season | Puck Daddy
The hunch about Hornqvist replacing Neal goal for goal may be a bit of a stretch. Or, the Malkin/Crosby-effect may be so great that Hornqvist scores over 40 goals. We will simply have to wait and see on this one.
NHL Draft: Jack Eichel, Noah Hanifin lead exciting American class - CBSSports.com
For the overall growth of the NHL, a growth which depends heavily on the U.S. markets, it is important that there always exists some American stars in the league. If one of those stars were to become the best player in the league, which Eichel has the potential to become, the NHL will have a plethora of advertising opportunities that will help the sport grow even further in the U.S. (i.e just imagine post-Olympics T.J. Oshie times ten).
Quebec cabinet minister mulls government involvement in NHL bid | TSN
Since the government would not own the team, I have no problem with this. The involvement seems to purely involve financial aid, which many local governments give franchises.
NHL 15: A Curmudgeon's Review - Hockey Wilderness
Another take on EA's recent installment in its NHL series.
Habs lose ’13 1st-rounder McCarron (shoulder) for six weeks | ProHockeyTalk
Another preseason injury! The Canadiens drafted McCarron with the 25th pick in last year's draft.
NHL vs. KHL showdown looming over 2016 World Cup of Hockey | Puck Daddy
With the return of the World Cup, there will be three major international hockey tournaments (IIHF World Championships and the Olympics being the other two). My recommendation would be to merge the World Cup and IIHF WC's into one tournament that would be held every four years. This means that every other year there will be an international hockey tournament. Basically, a setup similar to the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championships. Three tournaments is simply too many.
Let's Go Red Wings!
