The Wings meet the Blues for the first time this season. The dogfight in the East makes points very important for the Wings and the dogfight in St. Louis is run by David Backes.

The Blues have won 5 straight and are breathing down the necks of Chicago for 2nd in the Central (both behind surprising upstart Nashville). Unlike the Wings, the Wild Card teams behind St. Louis are comfortably behind Winnipeg is five points back and Vancouver eight. St. Louis sits a full ten points up on 9th place in the conference.

Detroit's lead in the same race is 6... and that team has two games in hand.

I actually like the way Detroit's system matches up against St. Louis' except for one key are that we all know about. The Blues' forecheck is aggressive and relentless. The Red Wings' defense against aggressive, relentless forechecks is turnovers and prayers. However, I think that when the Wings' are able to transition, they'll be able to do so effectively.

Have fun in the comments and let's go Red Wings.
