Danny DeKseyser Suffered Lower Left Leg Injury in Pittsburgh

DETROIT -- It's been reported that Red Wings defenseman Danny DeKeyser sustained a lower left leg injury on Wednesday night in the third period against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

This is worrisome, seeing that the Red Wings decided to put out a press release on the injury - Something they don't tend to do. I can't exactly recall when in the third period this happened, but according to the team, that's where it all went down. DeKeyser's last shift in the third period ended at 16:20. DeKeyser was examined in Pittsburgh, but managed to return with his team back home.

Upon returning to Detroit, underwent tests to determine the extent of his leg injury. This sucks, man. Here's to hoping it's nothing serious.

More from the Red Wings organization:

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Danny DeKeyser suffered a lower left leg injury in the third period of last night’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at CONSOL Energy Center.  DeKeyser was examined by doctors after last night’s game and returned to Detroit with the team this morning.  He underwent further tests this afternoon to help determine the extent of the injury.  A timetable for his return is currently unknown as the team awaits the results of today’s examination.

This story is developing.

More from Bill Roose at the Red Wings' site:

He was examined by doctors following last night's game. This morning he wore an immobilizing boot on his left foot and walked on crutches as he made his way to the team bus in downtown Pittsburgh.

Once back in Detroit, DeKeyser drove to the Detroit Medical Center, where he underwent further testing this afternoon to determine the extent of the injury. The Red Wings are still awaiting the results of the MRI.

Update:

DeKeyser reportedly sustained the injury on his second to last shift late in the 3rd period while on the penalty kill. Here's video of that shift. There isn't anything that looks distinctly like it *should* have caused injury, but you can clearly see DDK favoring his left foot after a hit in the corner from David Perron right after the faceoff. On his next and final shift of the game (at the 37 second mark of the video) he goes down and slides past the goal post; if the injury happened on the previous shift, that could explain why he went down.

We'll continue posting updates if and when they become avaliable.
