Per Ansar Khan, if Detroit cannot land Dion Phaneuf, they will go for New Jersey's Marek Zidlicky:

Another rental case here, but Zidlicky is a right-shot defenseman and could help on the backend. He's old, yeah.. But he has a slew of upside in terms of offense, and playing the QB on the power play. He has a heavy shot, and a slick first pass that could really add a weapon to the Red Wings' blue line corps. The question is.. What does it cost Detroit? They don't have a 2nd or 3rd round pick to give up, so unless it's a low-tier prospect, and a later draft pick.. I have reserved thoughts on this speculation. He boasts a +2.4 CorsiRel%. It could be a huge addition, but the cost could be troubling to Red Wings faithful. Khan reports it doesn't look like anything else will happen today, but why should we believe that?
