SUNRISE, FLA -- With the 170th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, the Detroit Red Wings select defenseman Patrick Holway, another University of Maine commit. A right-shooting defenseman.
Update: Bangor Daily News article from last September talking about Holway's verbal commitment to the University of Maine:
"He is an offensive defenseman who skates really well for a big guy," said Lovell. "He's only going to get better and better. He has a huge reach and fantastic hands for a big person.
"He has a lot of pro potential because of his size and his reach and because he sees the ice well. He has a huge wingspan. He's going to be a very good hockey player," Lovell added.
Holway also has a hard shot and he is physical, according to Lovell.
In the same article, Holway talks about his own development:
"I need to get stronger and I have to tighten up in the defensive zone a little bit," said Holway, who uses lacrosse to keep in shape.
Update 2: SBN College Hockey's post about Holway's commitment to Maine:
Holway is an athletic player who skates well and can distribute the puck. A first-time draft eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft, he will be scouted closely to see if he slipped through the cracks. Some organizations could be intrigued by his size and athletic ability despite his relatively low profile. Judging by the high praise of his lacrosse coach, Holway will continue to develop and become a better player.
"He's coachable. He's 100% into hockey when he's on the ice and was 100% committed to lacrosse on the lacrosse field. He motivates his teammates, he's a silent leader and his teammates love him," said [lacrosse coach] Beaudoin.
