The goalie roster this year features the three most recent goalies the Wings have drafted as well as Czech invite Tomas Kral. Jake Paterson has been to the rodeo before, but for the other three goalies it's their first time attending the Wings development camp and will be our first real in depth look at them.

Meet the goalies

36 Jake Paterson G 6.1 183 5/13/1994 DET-2012 (3-80) Kitchener (OHL)

After going back to the OHL for his overage year last season, Jake Paterson is now starting his professional career. He's the only goalie with previous Red Wings camp experience, and this most likely be his final prospect camp. Last season he had a 12-11-1 record with a 3.48 GAA and .905 SV% with the Saginaw Spirit. Mid season he was traded to the Kitchener Rangers where he posted a 14-10-2 record with a 2.37 GAA and .929 SV% in the regular season and was 2-4-0 with a 5.18 GAA and .854 SV% in the playoffs. Paterson is an athletic goalie who manages to cover a lot of the net, despite not being big by today's goalie standards. He's always cool and calm regardless of the situation and sometimes it's almost eerie how little reaction or signs of life he shows until the the last second when you think he may have fallen asleep standing up. He's also a very good puck moving goalie, maybe not as good as Petr Mrazek, but I'd put them in the same ballpark.

Chase Perry G 6.3 190 2/8/1996 DET-2014 (5-136) Colorado College (NCHC)

Chase Perry was drafted last year in the 5th round but wasn't able to attend the 2014 camps. Because he's in college, he has to pay his own way 100%, which can make coming to camp much more difficult. Perry played 15 games in his freshman season with Colorado College, going 1-8-1 with a 3.97 GAA and .876 SV%.  Since Colorado was hot garbage last year, it's hard to evaluate Perry on an individual basis. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in camp and getting a chance to see his skill set and break down his individual strengths and weaknesses. What I know so far is that he's a very lanky, athletic goalie who's nimble and takes up a lot of net front space.

31 Joren van Pottelberghe G 6.2 201 6/5/1997 DET-2015 (4-110) Linkoping (Swe-Jr.)

The Wings strayed from their tradition of taking a goalie every other year when they selected Joren Van Pottelberghe this year with their 4th round pick. He's a big goalie who scouts say uses his size and smarts very well. He skates well but needs to improve his strength and reaction speed, and puck handling isn't his forte. He's praised for staying in position even while scrambling to make a tough save, for maintaining his whits even in chaos, and he has the confidence to come out and challenge shooters. I'm excited he's coming to his first development came after being drafted, so we don't have to wait very long to get a look at him.

Tomas Kral G 5.11 176 12/29/1992 Camp Invite Litomerice (Cze-2)

The Czech goalie Tomas Kral is the only non Wings drafted goalie this year. I wasn't able to find much information on him but I do know that his father (also Tomas Kral) is a lawyer and also Chairman of the Czech Ice Hockey Association. Last season, Tomas played 39 games for HC Litomerice in the Czech2 league and had a 2.38 GAA and .923 SV% in the regular season and a 2.31 GAA and .923 SV% in 3 playoff games.
