Red Wings' Brendan Smith Gets Opportunity On Power Play- By Ansar Khan: Mlive.com
The morning of the new season, the power play continues to dominate the focus of Red Wings talk.
They’ve all but finalized their opening night line up vs. Tampa Bay, including giving us a look at their hopefully revamped power play. New assistant and power play mastermind, John Torchetti emphasized the importance of timing and rotation, making sure to get quick shots off possession, which sounds encouraging. Further encouraging is the headline; Brendan Smith should be a good fit on the power play with his aggression and puck moving ability. There’s also a hint Ryan Sproul could rotate into the power play once he gets his shot in the line up. Sproul, who has a notoriously hard shot, would be interesting to watch set up at an NHL level. What’s not encouraging is Jeff Blashill penciling Nik Kronwall right back into power play once he returns from a knee injury.
JJ had a detailed write-up on the Wings new power play combinations yesterday that’s also worth a look in case you missed it.
