Predators Blog: On The Forecheck

Week two is shaping up to be better than week one for the Red Wings, at least in terms of results. A solid beating of the Senators in the home opener followed by some spectacular goaltending by Jimmy Howard in New York has the Wings back at .500 on the season. Next up is a home tilt with the Nashville Predators, now with 100% more P.K. Subban.

Similar to the Wings, the schedule makers did not do the Predators any favors to start out their 2016-17 season with a home and home against the Chicago Blackhawks followed by a game with the Dallas Stars. The good news for the Wings is that Nashville has struggled getting consistent offense and have only scored seven goals in three games so far. The bad news for the Wings and their mediocre penalty killing unit is that five of those seven goals have come on the power play. Nashville has plenty of skill and speed up from with the likes of Ryan Johansen, James Neal and Filip Forsberg, a very good top four of Roman Josi, P.K. Subban, Mattis Ekholm and Ryan Ellis along the blueline and historical Red Wings nemesis Pekka Rinne in net.

The Red Wings will need to continue to try and play with speed and aggression on the forecheck while eliminating those odd man rushes they were handing out like early Halloween candy to the Rangers on Tuesday if they are going to come out on top tonight.
