After a heartbreaking failed comeback against the Lightning, the Wings head back out on the road to take on the Washington Capitals tonight. The first meeting for both teams this season, our boys are hoping to get back on track after losing 7 of their last 10 games whereas the Capitals have won 7 of their last 10.

The Wings haven’t been sharp since winning 6 straight nearly a month ago and now they’re starting to deal with some injuries. Thomas Vanek is still out, Andreas Athanasiou will not return for another 10-14 days and Darren Helm will be on the shelf for an extended period of time with a dislocated shoulder.

But there is a silver lining here: Anthony Mantha and Tyler Bertuzzi (fresh off the plane from Grand Rapids) are up with the big club and showing what they can do. Hopefully they can prove their worth against a very good Capitals team tonight, I’d love to see them stick in Detroit even once we get healthy. Also, Ryan Sproul has stuck in the lineup after his spectacular game against the Lightning. Be on the lookout for him to step up tonight as well, he’s been a sneaky good addition to the Wings’ blueline this year.

The new lines nearly got the Wings past the Lightning. If they play as good as they did there, I like their chances of walking away from the Verizon Center with two points tonight.

The Expected Lineup

Scratches: Smith, Ouellet

Injuries: Vanek (hip), Jurco (back), Athanasiou (knee), Helm (shoulder)

Let’s Go Wings!
