In case you have been living under a rock for the past week, Steve Ott is a Red Wing. So that means you can now buy Steve Ott Red Wings jerseys. I’m not sure how fast these are flying off the shelves over at shop.nhl.com, but Twitter user @KevinParker12 made a somewhat disturbing discovery:
.@UniWatch Seems to be a slight oversight on the online NHL Shop. @otterN9NE Red Wings jersey autopopulates with #9. pic.twitter.com/KlQslrNFA4

Really, NHL?
I hate to be nit-picky, because this was probably a simple coding error, but COME ON. Gordie Howe, a Red Wings legend who had recently passed away, who also has his number retired with the club, should PROBABLY have been double-checked here. Ott has previously worn the number 9 with other clubs, and it is universally known who has wore that number before, and that it is retired with the Red Wings.
I don’t think this would have been a very difficult thing to avoid, all it would take would be the NHL doing it’s due diligence. Bad look, NHL. It’s somewhat embarrassing that you are this out-to-lunch with something like this.
Update - 11am
11am check-in and it's fixed. pic.twitter.com/Q5gz2twLMV
