When Niklas Kronwall fell off the Team Sweden Roster for the World Cup of Hockey for knee injuries, it created a fair amount of concern over Kronwall’s ability to hold up for a full Red Wings season. Today, we’ve got more concern, as Team Sweden has announced that their captain Henrik Zetterberg will not be playing in the tournament starting later this month.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any more details on the nature of what’s keeping Hank from feeling like he can go 100%, but if forced to put odds on things, I’d say the most-common bet would be the back problems which have knocked him out of international tournaments in the past.
I’m sure we’ll hear soon from the team about how everything is fine and Hank is expected to be good to go by the start of the season, just like we’ve heard in regards to Kronwall. We’ll keep you posted as the story develops.
Update:
Zetterberg out of World Cup. Holland said he hurt knee training. Will likely miss start of DET camp. Plans to be ready for start of season.
