Friday afternoon, Elliot Friedman of Sportsnet reported that former NHLer Shawn Horcoff is expected to be joining the Red Wings in a player development role:
Hearing Shawn Horcoff will be joining DET in a player development role. Finishes with 1,008 career games. Terrific career

Horcoff spent 14 seasons with three different NHL teams (Edmonton, Dallas, Anaheim), with the vast majority of it being with the Oilers. The former Edmonton captain has plenty of ties in Michigan -- His wife, Cindy, is from Northville, a suburb in Metro-Detroit. Additionally, Horcoff went to school and played hockey for Michigan State University.
If I do recall correctly, Horcoff is also close friends with Dan Cleary, so the ties here in Detroit keep on growing. This was a somewhat unexpected hire, but I’m not complaining. Horcoff was a fine player in his prime, and had a remarkable career — One that helped the Edmonton Oilers make it to the Stanley Cup Final in 2006.
I’ve heard that Horcoff is already in attendance for the prospect tournament in Traverse City, so it appears that if he is already working with the club.
