Vegas Blog: Knights On Ice

We can’t change the cards we’re dealt, just how we play the hand

Right now the Knights are on a roll and have managed to mesh into a team that actually seems like they’ve been playing together for a while. They are the feelgood story of the season, showing how hockey can help a community heal, and it’s pretty awesome. Interestingly enough, all 50 states have at least one person who has bought a ticket to a Knights game and I’ve seen that as many as 16,000 season tickets have been sold!? Big if true.

But back to business. Marc-Andre Fleury and James Neal are leading the way for the Knights and they are both** enemies. The Knights are going to lose a game, eventually, and why not show the new guys, and the rest of the NHL, that Detroit isn’t going to lay down and die this season? Our shoddy defense hinders our offense as well, as the forwards have to be ready to sprint back to our end at a moment’s notice.

Sure would be nice to have another speedy forward, I wonder where we can find one?

**I don’t actually remember why I don’t like James Neal, if it’s something specific or just because he is a former Penguin and Predator. Tell me in the comments why I could be mad at him.

The Ouchies

The Knights, as of Thursday night, are generally healthy and good to go. DeKeyser left the Dallas game early with a lower-body injury and Kronwall was back in against Arizona. I wish I was more upset about this, but my faith in DeKeyser having a bounceback season it appears may have been misplaced.

Is it too early in the season to be declaring players complete disasters? Yes. Am I doing it anyway? Perhaps.

In Griffins news, Tyler Bertuzzi (wrist) should be back soon and Ryan Sproul is chomping at the bit to return to the big club as he finishes recovering from his ACL surgery in April.

Who’s Hot and Ready?

Mantha, Frk and Larkin have all been showing why the kids are alright, but don’t count out old man Mike Green who is quietly racking up the assists and Jimmy Howard who isn’t going to let anyone take the starting job from him without a fight - he’s made 74 saves over his first two starts! Thanks, defense.

Who do you think is about to break out? Tatar, Nielsen, and Nyquist have all been taking shots and it’s going to pay off pretty soon.

And Henrik Zetterberg is always hot and ready because he is Henrik Zetterberg.
