The Weekly Wrap Up: Week 2, Viva Las Red Wings

NHL: Detroit Red Wings at Vegas Golden Knights Joshua Dahl-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Wings came into the second week of the season having won their first two games. The second week would see the Red Wings take on potential Stanley Cup Contender Dallas Stars before heading to the desert for a matchup with the Arizona Coyotes and their first trip to Las Vegas to face the Golden Knights.

Game 3 – Detroit Red Wings @ Dallas Stars

Result – 4 – 2 Dallas

3 Stars

1 John Klingberg (1G, 1A)

2 Ben Bishop (23SV)

3 Mattias Janmark (1G, 1A)

Quick Recap

Early turnovers kept Detroit from finding a rhythm and would prove to be their undoing. Dallas took a 2-0 lead in the first period, traded goals in the second and held on after Anthony Mantha scored to make it 3-2 with just under five minutes to go in the game before scoring with two seconds left to down the Wings 4-2.

Game 4 – Detroit Red Wings @ Arizona Coyotes

Result – 4-2 Red Wings

3 Stars

1st Luke Glendening (1G)

2nd Clayton Keller (2G)

3rd Henrik Zetterberg (1G)

Quick Recap

A penalty filled first period kept Detroit from getting things going early on. After trading power play then even strength goals in the second it looked like the game was heading towards overtime. Luke Glendening would have none of that though as he scored a shorthanded goal with three and a half minutes left in the game to give the Red Wings the lead. Frans Nielsen sealed the win with an empty net goal and the Red Wings won 4-2.

Top 3 Red Wings Goals of the Week

3. Martin Frk showed just how dangerous his shot can be on the power play with this blast off a nice setup and feed from Mike Green to open up the scoring for the Wings in their 4-2 win in Arizona.

2. Dylan Larkin used his speed to create a 2 on 1 shorthanded and Luke Glendening showed he can score on the forehand as he buried the cross ice feed from Larkin for the eventual game winning goal in the Wings 4-2 victory against Arizona.

1. Henrik Zetterberg made an absolute beautiful saucer pass to Anthony Mantha in the slot who took the pass, spun around a slide it past Marc-Andre Fleury to tie the score at three in the Red Wings 6-3 victory over the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
