Maple Leafs Blog: Pension Plan Puppets

The first of three tough games this week for the Red Wings looked quite familiar as Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov did what they always do to the Red Wings, score big goals, as the Lightning handed the Red Wings their first loss in Little Caesers Arena 3-2. It is back on the road again for the Wings though as they take the quick trip north of the border to take on the other preseason favorite to win the Atlantic, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Fortunately for the Red Wings they are catching the Leafs on the back end of a back-to-back after they beat the Capitals 2-0 in Washington. As will likely be the case for the next decade, any talk about the Leafs has to begin with Auston Matthews, who is again leading the team in goals out of the gate, but the talk does not end with Matthews. They have exciting young forward like Mitch Marner and William Nylander, young exciting defensemen Morgan Rielly and Jake Gardner and of course former Red Wings death starer Mike Babcock.

This will prove to be another good test for the Red Wings as they try to keep pace with the Maple Leafs on the ice and in the standings.
