Red Wings mailbag: On the defense, the playoff streak and cloning | Helene St. James, Detroit Free Press

Just a couple of questions here regarding the Wings’ defense and Holland’s recent asset management as it concerns keeping The Streak alive.

From the article:

Since 2013, Holland has held onto first-round picks, the Wings are reaping the results of having developed Anthony Mantha (2013), Dylan Larkin (2014), with Evgeny Svechnikov (2015) likely to play in Detroit this season (he was injured during exhibition season and just started playing with Grand Rapids Oct. 20). Dennis Cholowski (2016) is having a terrific season with his junior team, Prince George (13 points after 12 games) as is Michael Rasmussen (2017) with his junior team, Tri-City (12 points after 10 games).

Sure, the Wings have done a nice job drafting since 2013 (or at least it seems that way right now). The problem seems to be what the Wings do with their prospects once they run out of options at the Junior level and again when they’re poised to make the transition between the AHL and NHL. Hopefully we’ll at least get a chance to see what Svechnikov and Hicketts can do with the NHL club this season.

Clayton Keller is the Coyotes' silver lining amid winless start | Kevin Allen, USA Today

The Coyotes are bad. Clayton Keller, however is very good. They may be winless to start the year and whatnot, but sooner or later this organization is going to break through and make some noise. They have too much talent, especially young talent, to keep that from happening.
