Ghoulish Gameday Updates: Red Wings vs. Coyotes

NHL: Detroit Red Wings at Florida Panthers Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

No changes on the forward lines from practice, but a switch-up for the defensive pairs in the morning skate:

On the other side, Niklas Hjalmarsson left last night’s game in the third period and didn’t return. Annti Raanta isn’t quite ready to go either:

The Coyotes did call up D-man Joel Hanley from Tucson, but we’re expecting he’s a backup and Adam “Don’t Call me Luke” Clendening is in for the banged-up Hjalmarsson

Skeleton Keys to the Game

The calls are coming from inside the box

Stop. Taking. Penalties. Larkin had a penalty problem last year, and he is showing more of a penalty problem this year. Officials are cracking down on this year, this isn’t The Town That Dreaded Sundown - if you go around slashing people you’re going to get caught. Abdelkader and Green are right up there with penalty minutes, but while Abby’s penalties are usually more boneheaded it hurts us more to have Green in the box.

They won’t stay dead

The Wings are in no position to be underestimating anybody. The Coyotes are off to an epically terrible start, which only makes them all the more hungry to start winning. If goaltending and Henrik Zetterberg have to carry the team again tonight, then we’ve failed. Last game showed a better team effort, so let’s keep it going!

Let’s Go Red Wings!
