Well that was fun. Game one of the new season and the new arena was filled with excitement as the Red Wings kicked off the 2017-18 season with a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Wild. The Wings do not get to enjoy their new digs long as they look to open the road portion of the 2017-18 season in Ottawa against the Senators.

The season opener was not quite as kind to the Ottawa as they lost 5-4 in a shootout to the Washington Capitals after blowing 3-1 and 4-3 third period leads.

Ottawa will still be without all world defenseman Erik Karlsson but they are still a very good team and should be a tough test for the Red Wings first road tilt of the season.
