The inconsistent effort and play we saw from the Red Wings in October was not scared away on Halloween by the Red Wings victory over Arizona and reared its head in a 3-1 loss in Ottawa two days later. The Wings will look to find a more consistent approach starting tonight as they begin their Western Canada road trip taking on the equally inconsistent Edmonton Oilers.

It is no surprise to anyone that the Oilers are lead offensively by Connor “probably will win several Harts before he retires” McDavid. It is a little surprising though that it is often forgotten about now a days Ryan Nugent-Hopkins that is leading the team goals (albeit by one goal) over McDavid. What is very surprising is that Edmonton, a team almost everyone picked at the beginning of the season to be in the Stanley Cup Finals, have struggled early on in the season and actually find themselves tied for the second worst record in the NHL. Despite having the best player in the NHL today and several other dynamic offensive players, Edmonton has found it difficult to find goals with consistency early on. In twelve games this season they have registered two or less goals in eight times, winning only once.

That said, this is still a dangerous team with the type of speed and skill that has given the Red Wings issues this season. Despite Edmonton’s early struggles the Red Wings are going to need to put in a full 60 minutes to have a shot at skating away with two points tonight.
