In Detroit Land
Red Wings lose Gustav Nyquist to lower-body injury at Edmonton
Since the game just ended a little while ago, there isn’t too much new right now. We did learn, however, that Nyquist’s injury is hopefully not as bad as it looked originally.
I thought there was a decent chance that Goose blew out his knee. I’m obviously really glad I was wrong.
Around the NHL
Well, it finally happened. Joe Sakic accidentally gave Matt Duchene a sock and freed him.
Matt Duchene trade: Senators land star center in blockbuster 3-way deal - SBNation.com
The Colorado Avalanche finally moved on from Matt Duchene by agreeing to trade the star forward to the Ottawa Senators on Sunday, reports Sportnet’s Elliotte Friedman. The three-way deal will also include forward Kyle Turris being sent to the Nashville Predators, according to Bruce Garrioch.
The full details of the trade are now out, and it looks like Joe Sakic..........did well? Like, very well?
Appears this is the Duchene Trade per Avalanche Broadcast and @FriedgeHNIC

NSH signed Turris to 6 years, $36M. pic.twitter.com/BJ9VyeaAcJ
As you can see at the bottom, Nashville signed Kyle Turris to a 6 year, 6M AAV deal after acquiring him. Turris doesn’t get as much credit as he should, and it’ll be interesting to see what he can do now that he’s away from Ottawa’s boring system.
Colorado ended up getting more than was expected for Duchene.
Nashville got a great center. We saw last year just how important center depth is in the playoffs, and Nashville heavily reinforced theirs without having to sacrifice their current defense depth.
Ottawa likely overpaid, and the immediate analysis has Ottawa as the loser in this trade, which is interesting since they ended up with Duchene. But they basically upgraded from Turris to Duchene, which is not a huge upgrade for Shane Bowers and a 1st and 3rd.
But regardless, the saga is over. Duchene is free, and we don’t have to read any more articles about it.
