Morning Skate: Red Wings vs. Rangers

Losing is the new winning, and yes I mean that.

The Red Wings are on a 3-game losing streak and have just three wins in the month of December. They currently sit with the 4th worst record in the NHL and sit 11 points out of a playoff spot (haha). So yes, it’s over Red Wings fans, and it’s time to cheer for them to lose, at least from my perspective. Even if this team makes the playoffs (please don’t), they have no chance of making it out of Round 1. Losing means a better chance of Rasmus Dahlin, a better chance of Ken Holland being gone and a better chance of the young guys finally being given a shot. With the Rangers in town tonight, and then the Penguins on NYE, I can really get on board this whole losing train.

So let’s talk about those blue shirts. The Rangers are in 4th place in the Metro division, which has proven to be by far the toughest division in the NHL this year. They are only five points out of 1st, but also sit just three points up on a playoff spot. Already being, 2-1-1 in their last four games, New York has Detroit, Buffalo, Chicago and Arizona in their next four, which gives them the real chance to make up solid ground in the division.
