The Big Story
Mike Ribeiro wanted out of Nashville and it looks like he finally got his wish. Although the 36-year-old veteran center would have preferred to be traded to a team of his choosing, he instead was placed on waivers Friday morning.
There were reports that Ribeiro requested a trade back to the team that drafted him in 1998, the Montreal Canadiens. Instead of going back to Montreal, Ribeiro will now be at the mercy of the waiver-wire. It’s hard to imagine which team and GM would take a chance on the historically troubled Ribeiro.
In Red Wings Land
The Red Wings placed defenceman Alexey Marchenko on waivers as well on Friday morning. The move allows the Red Wings to activate Brendan Smith off of IR for Saturday’s game in Nashville.
But are the Wings done making roster moves? With several other players ready to return to action, Ken Holland may be forced to make some additional moves in the upcoming week to create roster and cap space, for better or worse.
