Blackhawks Blog: Second City Hockey

The Wings are in free fall, the Blackhawks have won 7 straight and 9 of their last 10. The Wings are fresh off a 6-1 thumping from the Bruins, the Blackhawks have scored fewer than 4 goals just once over their last 7. The only thing going for the Red Wings tonight is that they’re catching the Hawks on the second night of a back-to-back. We’re going to need quite a bit of help in order to stop the Hawks’ hot streak tonight.

Adding a little intrigue to the matchup, the Hawks are dressing three former Red Wings up front; Tomas Jurco, Jordin Tootoo and Marian Hossa are all expected to be in the lineup tonight. Jurco’s yet to score a point as a member of the Blackhawks, so I fully expect him to score his first goal of the season tonight à la Alexey Marchenko.

Through all of this, somehow, Henrik Zetterberg has 20 points in his last 16 games. He’s basically trying to bring this team to the postseason on his own but these last 4 games have all but ended those hopes. Hats off to Hank, who’s giving this season everything he’s got. The Red Wings playoff streak will end under his watch, but not for a lack of effort on his part.

The Expected Lineup

Petr Mrazek is your expected starter, and Jimmy Howard returns to the lineup as the backup (of course this could change before puck drop)
