Coyotes Blog: Five For Howling

The Coyotes are one of just three teams to currently sit below the Red Wings in the league-wide standings, which is a pretty hard thing to accomplish these days. I’m all for winning as many games as possible while we still have the chance, but this one’s away from The Joe and against a team that we can still “catch” in the “race” for the 2nd best odds in the draft lottery. I’m not saying we should actively try to lose, but hey, I wouldn’t mind the ‘Yotes taking both points tonight.

Something to keep an eye on tonight: the last time these two teams met, Pavel Datsyuk was a complete no-show for Arizona. We’ll have to see if the Magic Man is able to affect the outcome of this one, although something tells me he’ll be a non-factor again.

Tonight’s game also gives Wings fans another chance to scout Jakob Chychrun, the player we essentially traded to Arizona in exchange for them taking on Datsyuk’s contract. The jury’s still out as to who won that trade, the Wings did receive a later pick back that we used to draft 14 year old St. Cloud State defenseman Dennis Cholowski, but these games always seem open up the “What if?” debate.
