Lightning Blog: Raw Charge

How the mighty have fallen.

Tonight, the Lightning are in town to take on the Red Wings — both teams in a very unfamiliar state. The Lightning have had a disappointing season, and the Red Wings are one of the worst in the league. Something new for both squads.

Tampa holds onto the 5th spot in the Atlantic division, which should be much of a surprise after they lost Steven Stamkos earlier this season. Both teams were sellers at the trade deadline, and have been limping through the rest of the season. At this point, both teams are playing for confidence going into next season.

The Red Wings are still trying to compete, and I personally think they could give the Bolts a run for their money tonight, because whether you like it or not, players don’t play for draft position. For a lot of fans, they’re just hoping the Wings will tank out the season to secure the best-possible draft position. As it stands right now, they’re very unlikely to land a top-three pick, and could be a long shot for top-five. At this point, I’m just looking for entertaining hockey.

Some notes from yesterday’s practice; Darren Helm skated, but will be a game-time decision. The goalie carousel continues as Petr Mrazek will get the nod.

Here’s a look at our expected lineups for tonight.
