In Red Wings Land

Detroit Red Wings exposed Petr Mrazek due to performance, attitude | MLive

We were all pretty surprised when Petr Mrazek was left exposed and Jimmy Howard was protected yesterday morning. As the day went on we started to learn some of the reason’s why the young netminder could be leaving town. Mrazek reportedly has some attitude issues behind the scenes.

Mrazek was not happy the Red Wings were unable to trade Howard in the off-season and let the club know in less-than-tactful terms.

Mrazek has always had a swagger and air of confidence, which appealed to the Red Wings. But sometimes he's too cocky for his own good, some in the organization believe. He became increasingly difficult to coach last season, they said.

This is interesting news without question. Off the top of my head, I don’t recall really getting too many stories about Mrazek’s bad attitude throughout the season or prior seasons. If it was known, it seems like something that could’ve and should’ve been reported before now. That way it wouldn’t seem like a potential character assassination when he’s possibly headed out the door (this isn’t Boston).

Khan(!) does mention that regardless of attitude, this decision is the wrong one when it comes to asset management. Looks like we finally agree with him on something.

Around the League Division

Atlantic Division team draft needs | NHL.com

The Red Wings absolutely need to take the best player available regardless of position this Friday, but what’s their biggest need? I think it’s easy to narrow it down to one of two positions: center and defense.

Let’s Go Red Wings.
