Athanasiou could be the price to upgrade Red Wings defense | The Athletic

Detroit GM Ken Holland declined to comment on the 22-year-old Athanasiou specifically as a possible trade candidate but spoke in more general terms about his approach to moving any young forwards in the organization to upgrade the defense.

“I’m not looking to trade any of our 21, 22 or 23 year olds for players who are five, six or seven years older,” Holland told The Athletic. “If I’m going to trade, and I might not, the trade has to be there. It has to make sense. It has to make sense for the other team. It has to be a similar age.”

I don’t hate this idea. Of course, trading Andreas Athanasiou all depends on what the return is. I like that Holland insists on trading a young player for another young player and not an older vet. If moving AA means the Red Wings get a young, top pair defenseman it might be worth it.

12 big questions heading into NHL Draft: Trade rumors galore | Sportsnet

My biggest question (other than what will the Wings do) is will we actually get some real trades? How often do we get these drafts and deadlines hyped up that there will be so much movement... and then crickets. I want to see some madness. I want to see Vegas somehow end up with the 1st overall pick. I want to see big names switch teams. It needs to be a crazy draft day.
